A Good Night’s Sleep Has Become The Ultimate Status Symbol

A thought provoking piece in today’s Guardian suggests that sleep deprivation used to be a badge of honour for driven individuals, a sign of business and importance, but that the situation has now changed radically. Managing to achieve a good night’s sleep is now the highly prized status symbol.

In response a  “sleep industry” has emerged to provide products and services which monitor where, when and how people sleep. New “high tech mattresses” are being launched, “performance pajamas” are available, sensors which track sleep via brainwaves are becoming common and luxury hotels are offering “sleep retreats”.
